Greetings, people of Earth and art lovers! Man, it's been a WHILE.
I haven't done much during these last two years. Sure, I've been busy with work, and being productive always seems like an absurd option when I finally come home, but it still doesn't mean I can't create anything new once in a while. And I rarely drew or painted anything at all.
I did try, though. A few times. The sketches turned out well, but everything started looking off when I added color. I just couldn't get it; the people always seemed like they were sculptured in mud, and people are virtually the only thing I draw. I was frustrated, and tired of my own ignorance when it came to coloring, shading and contrasting.
Fortunately, the third season of Korra was there to inspire me (thank you Bryke for doing it right this time!) and I decided to draw P'li, who had the most interesting character design in my opinion. At first it didn't go any better than the others. The skin looked yellow and dead, as if I was trying to make her look inanimate on purpose. But this time I decided that if I don't like something, I won't quit - instead, I'll start over. I'll color it again, no matter how many times it'll take, until I'm happy with the result.
I think it turned out to be my best piece so far.
I'm writing this as a reminder for myself, rather than for anyone else. You improve only if you do something right. Giving up repeatedly didn't get me anywhere - that's exactly why I have barely improved since I was in high school.
I can finally say that I'm motivated. I want to keep experimenting with new techniques, and create art that I could take pride in.
So guys - I didn't keep in touch, and I'm sorry for that. I'd be really happy to hear from you, about the progress you've made and the art you've created while I wasn't around. If you're reading this, let me know!
